A forecast for installed capacity in 2020 is made. Based on this forecast, the amount of excess electricity is modeled on an hourly resolution. Conversion and storage technology is characterized and its performance in absorbing excess electricity is evaluated. In particular, central Li-ion batteries, power-to-heat conversion in residential hot water tanks and power-to-gas conversion are considered.
